How do you get here from campus without a car?
Three ways, and the train is the easiest of them. Caltrain runs one stop south from Palo Alto station to California Avenue. From that platform we are about a five minute walk, at 200 California Avenue, Suite 180, one block along the same street. By car the trip is about 8 to 10 minutes, roughly 2.5 miles. The phone is (650) 567-8886 if you would rather book by voice.
Booking a massage near Stanford without a car is the normal case here rather than the awkward one, and the three routes below are the ones students and staff actually use.
Driving works, and parking is the part that talks people out of it. Metered spaces line California Avenue with public lots behind the shops, and the block fills up most afternoons; the train sidesteps all of that.
By Caltrain
California Avenue station sits at 101 California Avenue — one stop from Palo Alto, two from Menlo Park, and on the same line as Mountain View and Redwood City. Walking out of the station puts you on our street already, so the last leg is one block on foot past the restaurants.
By bike
Park Boulevard is the quiet way down from the campus edge, and the ride takes most people somewhere around 15 minutes. There is bike parking on the avenue itself, a few doors either side of Suite 180.
- Caltrain: board at Palo Alto station, ride one stop south to California Avenue, then walk about five minutes along the avenue to Suite 180.
- Marguerite: take the free campus shuttle to Palo Alto station, where that same one-stop train connection picks up.
- Bike: head down Park Boulevard, which runs parallel to the tracks and comes out at the California Avenue underpass, roughly a block from our door.
What does $78 buy?
A full hour, split in half: 30 minutes of foot reflexology followed by 30 minutes of body massage. The 60-Min Foot + Body Combo is the lowest price on our menu at $78, and organic massage oil, a complimentary hot stone add-on and hot towels come with it at no extra charge.
What $78 does not buy is a choice about how the hour divides. The split is fixed at 30 and 30, so if you want the whole hour on your back and shoulders, the booking you want is the 60 minute Body Massage at $90. Cupping adds $20 and a body scrub adds $30, ten minutes each, attached to a booked session rather than sold on their own.
What happens in the reflexology half?
Thirty minutes of firm thumb and knuckle pressure over the soles, arches and toes, with your clothes on. Reflexology maps regions of the foot to the rest of the body, and the pressure is specific rather than gentle. People who find a full-body massage too exposed for a first visit often start here instead.
Evidence for the map itself is thin, and the relaxation response is the honest reason to book it. NCCIH's summary of relaxation techniques describes slowed breathing and reduced muscle tension as the measurable part of what happens when the body settles. The second half of the hour moves you to the table for 30 minutes of oil work on the back, shoulders and neck, or wherever you name at the start.
Is 45 minutes long enough?
For one region, yes. A 45 minute Body Massage at $80 is enough to work the neck, shoulders and upper back properly, or the lower back and hips, at whatever pressure you ask for. Spreading 45 minutes over the whole body turns the session into a tour of it.
Swedish and deep tissue are the same booking here. You tell the therapist how firm you want the work and where you carry it, and there is no separate deep tissue line item charging you extra for the answer.
Session length seems to matter more than technique for some complaints. Research summarized in the NCCIH review of massage therapy research found that for chronic neck pain, 60 minute sessions given two or three times a week did better than 30 minute ones. For a sore back after a week of lab benches, the NINDS low back pain page describes most acute episodes as settling within a few days to a few weeks, which makes a shorter session a comfort measure while that happens.
When is it worth spending more?
When you want the whole body covered, or one problem worked rather than visited. $90 buys 60 minutes on the body, $115 buys 75 and $135 buys 90. The step from 60 to 75 minutes costs $25 and is the one people notice most, because that is where a therapist can finish the back and still reach the legs.
Under $100 the real comparison is between $78 for the split hour and $90 for a full hour of body work. The $12 difference trades the foot reflexology for 30 more minutes of oil massage.
| Price | Session | Time | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| $78 | 60-Min Foot + Body Combo | 60 min | 30 minutes foot reflexology, then 30 minutes on the table |
| $80 | Body Massage | 45 min | One region worked properly — neck and shoulders, or lower back and hips |
| $90 | Body Massage | 60 min | Full body, Swedish or deep tissue, at the pressure you ask for |
| $115 | Body Massage | 75 min | Full body with time left over for a problem area |
What should you bring?
Nothing beyond a way to pay and a rough idea of what hurts. Towels, organic oil and hot towels are here, and the hot stone add-on is included at no charge with any massage.
Tell us about anything medical before the session rather than during it. Mayo Clinic's massage overview suggests clearing massage with a physician if you have a bleeding disorder, deep vein thrombosis, burns, fractures or severe osteoporosis.
Booking
Book online through Square to see which times are free, or call (650) 567-8886, say how long you have and what you want worked on, and we will fit it to the slot.
If it is your first visit
The one new-client offer is the 90-Min Combo — 60 minutes of massage plus a 30 minute lymphatic facial — at $128 instead of $188. It applies once, and beyond the online booking discount it is the only reduced rate we publish.
When is the studio quietest?
Late evening and mid-afternoon. We stay open until 9:30 PM seven days a week, so an 8 PM booking after a late seminar or a long shift in a lab is an ordinary appointment here. Weekday afternoons between roughly 2 and 4 PM are the other quiet stretch.
Opening is 9:30 AM Tuesday through Sunday and 10:30 AM on Monday. Evenings from 6 PM and weekend afternoons go first, so book those further ahead than you think you need to.
Questions people ask

The 60-Min Foot + Body Combo at $78: 30 minutes of foot reflexology followed by 30 minutes of body massage. It is the only full hour on the menu under $80.

Yes. California Avenue station is one stop from Palo Alto and two from Menlo Park, on the same line as Mountain View and Redwood City. Walk about five minutes along California Avenue from the platform to Suite 180.

Do I need to undress for the foot reflexology?
No. The reflexology half of the hour is done fully clothed, with your feet on a supported rest. The body half is standard oil massage under a sheet.
