Couples massage in Palo Alto: what the room is really like
Two tables made up side by side against a rose-colored wall, two therapists starting at the same minute, and one price that covers both of you.
The short answer
A couples massage at Organic Day Spa is $180 for 60 minutes, $230 for 75 and $270 for 90, and the price covers both people, so an hour works out at $90 each. Two therapists work at the same time on two tables in one room at 200 California Avenue, Suite 180, Palo Alto.
- per person for the 60 minute session, the same as booking alone
- $90
- working at the same time, one table each
- 2 therapists
- the longest couples session, $270 covering both of you
- 90 minutes
How much is a couples massage in Palo Alto?
One hundred and eighty dollars for the hour, and that is the total for two people rather than the price each. The three lengths on the menu are 60 minutes at $180, 75 minutes at $230 and 90 minutes at $270. Halve any of them for the per-person figure. The hour works out at $90 — the same rate a single guest pays for a 60 minute Body Massage that afternoon.
Those are the figures you pay for a couples massage in Palo Alto, whether you book through Square or walk in. Each one covers both people.
| Length | Total for two | Per person | What the extra time adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 min | $180 | $90 | Full body once through at a steady, even pace |
| 75 min | $230 | $115 | Fifteen more minutes, usually spent on backs and shoulders |
| 90 min | $270 | $135 | Feet, scalp and a slower finish without rushing the back |
What does the couples room look like?
Two massage tables stand side by side against a rose-colored wall, close enough that you could reach across and touch a hand, made up in white linen with towels folded at the foot of each. The lighting is low and warm rather than candlelit, there is a single door that closes, and the room is quiet enough that the loudest thing in it is usually the music.
There is no suite, no lounge and no private wing attached, and we would rather say so than let a photograph imply otherwise. One room, two tables, off the corridor at Organic Day Spa, 200 California Avenue, Suite 180, Palo Alto. If you want to see the room before you commit, come in during opening hours and ask at the desk. Or call (650) 567-8886 and we will describe the setup.
What happens once you are both in the room?
Both therapists start at the same minute and finish at the same minute, so the session is genuinely shared rather than two appointments running near each other. You are shown in together, given time to undress and get under the sheets, and the therapists knock before coming back in. From there it runs like any other massage on the menu, with organic oil, hot towels, and the complimentary hot stone add-on if you both want it.
What do you wear, and how does draping work?
Undress to whatever you are comfortable with and get under the sheet; most people keep their underwear on. Draping is the same in a shared room as in a single one, which means you stay covered from shoulder to ankle and only the area being worked on is uncovered at a time. Nobody in the room sees anything they would not see at a swimming pool.
Can we talk during it?
Yes, and most couples stop within about ten minutes anyway. There is no rule against conversation and the therapists will not shush you. What tends to happen is that the first few minutes are spent comparing notes on how it feels, and then the room goes quiet on its own because talking takes more effort than not talking.
Can each of us get a different pressure?
Yes, and it is the normal case rather than the exception. Each therapist works to their own guest's request. One table can be getting firm deep tissue work through the shoulders while the other gets a light Swedish flow — same room, same price. Say what you want when you are asked at the start, and adjust out loud if it is not landing.
The one thing worth agreeing on beforehand is the length, because both of you are on the same clock. If one of you wants 90 minutes and the other has a meeting, book the 60 minutes and add the depth instead of the time by asking for a focused area.
How far ahead should we book a couples massage?
Further ahead than you would for yourself, because a couples session needs two therapists free in the same slot and the room free at the same time. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the easiest to land at short notice. Friday and Saturday evenings, and the week either side of Valentine's Day, are the ones that fill first, and a same-day request in those windows usually cannot be met.
- Pick the length first, since 60, 75 and 90 minutes each block a different amount of the schedule.
- Book online through Square, where the couples slots that still have two therapists attached are the only ones shown.
- If the time you want is not offered, call (650) 567-8886 before assuming it is gone; the online calendar is conservative about doubling up.
- Add both names and any pressure preferences to the booking note so neither therapist starts blind.
- Arrive about ten minutes early, because the session starts when both of you are on the tables rather than when the first one is.
What do people book a couples massage for?
Anniversaries and birthdays, mostly, and more of them in the evening than during the day. The other recurring reasons are a visitor in town for a weekend, the end of a hard stretch at work, and the pair who simply want an hour where neither of them is holding a phone. The NIMH fact sheet on stress draws a useful line: stress passes once the stressor does, anxiety persists without one. An hour on a table helps the first more reliably than the second.
Massage is a mainstream habit rather than a rare treat these days. National survey data cited by the NCCIH overview of massage therapy put the share of U.S. adults who had a massage in 2022 at 10.9 percent, up from 4.8 percent twenty years earlier. Mayo Clinic's massage overview names anxiety, headaches, stress-related insomnia and upper back and neck pain among the problems people report it helping with.
Giving it as a present
A gift card is the version that does not require guessing at anyone's calendar. Ours are bought through Fresha in any amount, so $180 covers the hour for two outright, and the recipient books the slot that suits them. See gift cards for how they arrive and how they are redeemed.
Questions people ask
Does the couples massage price cover both people?
Yes. The listed figure is the total for two: $180 for 60 minutes, $230 for 75 and $270 for 90. Divide by two for the per-person cost, which on the hour comes to $90, the same as one person booking a standard Body Massage.
Do we have to be a couple to book it?
No. The booking is for two people sharing a room, and friends, siblings, a parent and adult child, or two colleagues on the same team all book it. Nobody at the desk asks who you are to each other.
Can we book a couples massage for today?
Sometimes, and it depends entirely on whether two therapists are free in the same slot. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the likeliest. On a Friday or Saturday evening, assume you need to book ahead, and call (650) 567-8886 rather than guessing from the online calendar.
Is the couples room private?
It is a single room with a door that closes and two tables in it, used by your party only for the length of your booking. Two therapists are in the room working, one per table, for the whole session.
What if one of us is pregnant?
Prenatal Massage is its own booking on our menu, side-lying with bolsters, at $120 for 60 minutes. Call (650) 567-8886 before you book a couples slot and tell us how far along you are, and we will say what we can arrange for that day rather than guessing online.
Can we use a gift card for a couples massage?
Yes. Fresha gift cards are bought in any amount and redeemed against any service, so a card covering the session you want is the simplest way to give one. Anything left over stays on the card for a future booking.
